THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU START
Plain and simple KNOW WHAT YOU ARE WELDING. Aluminum Alloy has various uses in multiple industries, such as aerospace and motorsport. Each industry requires a different grade of aluminum depending on the application. The two most commonly used grades of Aluminum Alloy include 5000 grade (5052 H-32) and 6000 grade (6061 T-6 T-4). The 5000 grade (5052) aluminum has an excellent formability and weldability with increased strength commonly found in sheet/plate form. The 6000 grade (6061) aluminum has great weldability, machinability and moderate to high strength commonly found as a bar stock and used in billet applications.
Whether you are a seasoned pro or beginner welder it is extremely important to have consistent, high-grade material to work with in order to produce high quality products. you don’t find top level fabricators welding on cheap dirty material, right? so do yourself a favor and invest in your practice material, your skill and knowledge development will thank you.
